| | | Worn out! Phew what a day. We spent hours digging a three foot deep hole then cementing in a gate post to shut our field to the outside world so they cant pinch any more trees! The cement is setting so next is to lug the gate down there and measure up where the other post needs to go. Then we will need to make sure the gate cant be lifted, still smarting from the silver beech being nicked just before we planted it two weeks ago! Then we planted eight large trees and I potted on 51 oak saplings. We came in at half six and we are both totally shattered. We split two ten foot oak trees ten days ago that were strangling a small yew tree. We replanted the yew tree and one of the oaks we had to uproot. We had to cut the tap root but planted it. The leaves have just come out, how long do you think it will be before we know whether it will survive or not? We have fed it and have been watering it when its not been raining and I keep telling it it mustnt die so what do you think? Boy I love living in the country most days. |

| | | Re: Worn out! In my experience Yew seem to suffer more than most when the roots are cut. Some I had seemed to be ok but died out several months later in the winter. But you never know, as long as you water it, it might be ok. |

| | | Re: Worn out! Yes, keep it well watered this year, and it would probably be best if it was pruned back quite hard too, so that it is not going to try to draw more sap than the roots (what are left) can handle......................Jon |

Fingers crossed. | You are very lucky not to have a hosepipe ban. A local landscaper got done a £1000 for using a hosepipe. He was only doing his job and trying to earn his wage. You can still fill up your swimming pool though and all the car washes are working. Sore subject for me at the mo, but as a builder I am still allowed to use a hose pipe. Its a strange one.............Jon | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
