| | | Re: Hedging to encourage wildlife Time for an update:
This is the hedge just after I put in the hedging plants.
I chucked in lots of wildflower seeds and some plugs I bought and various odds and ends that were growing around the back garden and this was what it looked like about a month ago.
It will be a while before the hedging plants get to a decent size, but it is getting there. |

| | | Re: Hedging to encourage wildlife Unfortunately I'm not being allowed permission to view the second Piccy close up for some strange reason , But it does like it's coming on a treat and starting to look like one hedge and not just a number of small trees close together. Great stuff, I'm really happy for you!

| | | Re: Hedging to encourage wildlife Plan B in that case. Click on the first pic which will take you to the larger image of it, then look above the picture and to the right of it's thumbnail and there will be the thumbnail of the more recent picture. Click on it and that should do the trick. (what a palaver - there must be a quicker way but I can't think of it right now). |

| | | Re: Hedging to encourage wildlife hi in answer to your question about hedging, i researched this when purchasing the land with my barn ,i was given excellent help and advice from norfolk county council environment dept, this advice is free and there are grant aid available for 40% of the gross cost but only if you employ a contractor, the hedging mix you have noted is ok ,i used a similar one, are you planting a double staggerd row ,this will produce a much better hedge and windbreak for wildlife, my hedging sufferd from hares in the first year the growing tips were chewed off, we have just completed a wildlife pond/lake in association with planting and rough grass areas, owl boxes, newt rock piles, i recently completed a barn conversion in norflk,so this is my way of putting something back , |

| | | Re: Hedging to encourage wildlife That sounds fabulous, jrd.
My little strip is far smaller than anything like that, but it helps. I planted a staggered row and trimmed the tops to encourage some busy growth.
A very warm welcome to WAB, btw. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
