| | | Re: Garden Fox My wife and went out for a drive towards Braemar on Sunday afternoon. About ten miles from home I noticed a fox "strolling" along in a grassy area about 50 metres from the road.
I stopped the car and Irene and I were able to cross the road to get a better view of the fox ,it seemed to be used to humans close by, although the nearest house must have been half a mile away there in Glenshee. the fox wandered on until it caught the scent of something in some longish grass and for the next ten minutes or so we were treated to a "fox dance" no not a foxtrot ! The fox was doing what I had previously only seen on film when the fox is hunting voles or mice in snow, jumping straight up and landing on all fours with the feet very close together. The fox occasionally clanced in our direction but certainly wasn't afraid,it gave up the hunt and wandered slowly off towards the hill....................Magic
A few miles futher up Glenshee we stopped to watch a Peregrine Falcon harassing four Buzzards which had been circling in the air currents above one of the smaller hills for all the world like four Vultures !
The Falcon started to circle some hundreds of feet above the Buzzards then suddenly dropped like a stone through the circle the Buzzards had been flying The Peregrine managed to do it once more before flying away towards another glen.
I have been lucky enough to witness other episodes of the Peregrine Falcon getting the better of the Buzzards in this same way.
These two instances happened with cars going past, people admiring the scenery but not seeing the life within the scenery.
Yes, I do realise how lucky I am. |

| | | Re: Garden Fox Interesting thread and great photos. It is clear that if you want to see foxes easily, then come into town.
I live in east London and I am lucky that I have a graveyard nearby, and I see foxes at least every week. The last time I saw one was this morning at about 7:30 in the back garden.
I do my best to convince people that they are not going to kill their cats (I think both fox and cat know the risk is too great) and they are a useful predators of mice and rats.
Foxes great opportunists - your binbag is fair game, but similarly, if it is small, furry and running away, it is on the menu.
