| | | Bad year for the Pumkin.. Every year I usually buy in four large pumkins from a small family run
garden centre..When calling in today to have a look at what they had
to offer...was very disappointed. They have been growing Pumkins
since the business began.. and this yr has been one of the worst for
the pumkin.. when i asked about saving me my usual four he added.
"you must be joking ".. apparently its not been a good yr all round Even the shops are not able to get the large ones they are all small and they will soon gone ...Will i have to go with out this year ...I hope not..
Have you noticed a decline in this year Pumkin..
Julie

I also lost my entire potato and tomato crop to blight which seems to have been everywhere this year?

Paul | Pumpkin is of course an American import - the UK tradition of the 'vegetable head' used swede, mangelwurzel or other large beet.

| | | Re: Bad year for the Pumkin.. The origins of Hallowe'en dates back over 2000 years to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain.
This festival, which means the end of summer, celebrated the end of harvest and the beginning of the Celtic new year on November 1st.
I beleive they used Swedes (as in the veg) or Mangels etc and not Pumpkins.

| | | Re: Bad year for the Pumkin.. Our pumpkins were a disaster this year too, not enough heat. But you don't need large pumpkins to put on a good halloween display. Little pumpkins carved with swirls and patters can look equally as good. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
