| | | Pumpkin Help Hi.
I’m trying to grow a pumpkin to win a competition to grow the pumpkin with the heaviest weight. The weigh in is heading up and I’ve done quite well so far; I have two pumpkins; one weighing in at 2.8 stone and another at 3.5 stone. The thing is that I’ve never done this before and I’m wondering which one to cut off, as I’m told that you’re supposed to do this to get a heavy pumpkin. The bigger one is the ripest of the two and is a little misshaped as it is not on a solid surface. Also the stem is splitting a little. The smaller one is perfect and is on a pallet off the floor, the only thing is; it weighs less. I am wondering which one to cut off to have a greater chance of benefiting from doing this. Does anyone have any suggestions? I plan to keep the one I cut off incase of splitting etc. Is this a good idea? |

| | | Re: Pumpkin Help to do it properley you'd have limited the plant to one and kept the fruit covered up as long as possible to to try and stop it rippening loads of liquid manure feed as well - but thats for next year.
If it's purely weight you need to enter the biggest as thats all thats important it doesn't matter what it looks like.
Good luck and I hope you enjoyed growing it.
