actually a wall isnt in my plans but be sure there will be a healthy pond side rock pile.
Was also meant to go on a dry stone walling course this summer with college...yet another uni/college thing that failed to happen

but you must have someway of keeping the soil off the fence of course | What would you suggest to keep the soil from the fencing. Something like pond liner perhaps? |

| | | Re: replacing hedge with wall Hi,
There were two "hedges" not too far away that were so bird noisy it was incredible, they have gone silent in the last few year unfortunately, I asked my wife to ID the hedges and they are russian vine, mile-a-minute stuff, the birds [when we had some] loved it, it grows so densly.
Our few sparrows and dunnocks hide in a mix of quince and ivy, again very dense, they leap out, have a few pecks at food and leap back in again, they won't even travel another few feet to another table even if the first is empty.
Max.
The electricity board use a sacrificial wooden plank at the bottom of their fencing, about 6 inches in depth, wood be a lot cheaper than concrete, but not so durable.
