Ask your neighbours for the odd air brick (or bricks with holes in), surely you have some bamboo canes lying around? Roofing tiles/slates - cadge some of a builder who's doing a house up? Come on, use your imagination lol! - just ask, they can only say no! Failing that go 'skip' hunting - bound to find some useful materials in those (just ask permission from the person who's hired the skip first eh!) |

Doesn't matter if the tiles are flat. You may have to cut them down but if you put 2 pieces together to a point (triangle shape) and wedge them into one of the pallet holes it'll make a great toad/frog retreat! (on ground level of course)
I'd imagine the pine cones are just for earwigs, beetles, insects etc. to hide out in
Just thought also, if you cut a piece of wood to size to fit one of the pallet holes and then drill long slits in it, placed at the top of your tower you may get butterflies hibernating in there
Did you see the lacewing home on the link I posted - corrugated cardboard rolled up and placed in a lemonade bottle with the end cut off? - that would be easy to make!
Keep us posted ! |
