John | When we built our pond we intended to make a rockery from the soil dug from the hole.
However, we just ended up with a large pile of bricks and a rather unattractive mound of clay. We also dug up large amounts of broken glass, broken pottery, a clay pipe, a few bones and several oyster shells.
Hopefully your soil is a bit better |

My soil is also clay but i thought about adding some compost(home made) to this ,and also some sharp grit,to break up the clay.

You could try building up the edges of the pond to make it deeper, with a marshy area for creepies to enter and exit it.
Max.
