| | | Re: How do you mow your lawn? Mowing has stalled completely end of 2009. I have built a new and larger pond, removed the old one and increased the miniscule lawn area. Of course I did my back in!
Looking forward to mowing my NEW lawn. How different the new grass looks to the older lawn adjacent.

I'm fairly lucky in that I own a garden machinery business so I have lots of machines to choose from, my favorite is an Atco cylinder mower, they are the Rolls of mowing machines!
Richard | Stop showing off Richard, or was that an advertisement?. Only joking You say Atco cylinder, but is it a push, electric, or petrol. By the way, where are you, just so we know when we need a new mower.HeHe ..Posie..

| | | Re: How do you mow your lawn? Middling lawn approx 200m2, I have a self propelled rotary petrol Hayter 20" with a roller. It's not really up to the job tho. It would be if I had a picture perfect flat bowling green but unfortunately my lawn is sloping, full of weeds, holes, lumps & bumps plus a long strip on a slant in front of my house . It clogs up really easy when the grass gets too long as well or is even slightly damp (much swearing & muttering with vile threats then ensues). Re another thread hot summer 2010, this is also one reason I hate hot summers.
We should have gone for the bigger size & a Honda but it was too expensive (this one was nearly £400! Good grief what was I thinking!). Ah well next lottery win maybe. I would recommend a self propelled petrol though espec if your lawn slopes, but I am not sure re pros & cons between rotary & cylinder. I think proper lawn people would always recommend cylinder. Mine is anything but proper tho

| | | Re: How do you mow your lawn? The lawn is now a wreck, the borders have been grassed over with little attention to keeping it level. The Green woodpecker loves it but the five Partridge Wyandotte and the one black Silky regard the garden as their
territory now and quickly see it off (it still comes back)
There are large patches of moss around under the trees and this is providing nesting material for the garden birds as the chickens scratch it up

| | | Re: How do you mow your lawn? I use a petrol mower, i mow the smallish lawn near the house short , but in the wild life area at the top of the garden i mow 2 paths through it and hand clear round the trees and wild flowers.
I mow it all down at the start and end of the growing season including round the wildlife pond which is kept from getting overgrown through the summer by hand .

| | | Re: How do you mow your lawn? Mine's different!
Not very big, with Daisies, Clover, Black Medick, etc., and a corkscrew Hazel tree growing in it.
I breed and show around 60 Guinea Pigs, and I use the grass for their feed. I only mow off as much as I need for each feed, as it soon heats up when cut, and then cannot be used.
My neighbours are used to seeing my patchwork lawn! | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
