| | Ponds and pumps Hiya ,a few years ago I started a wildlife pond with a small pump. To my horror I found several tadpoles sucked in and a newt caught by its tail.
You can buy foam "boxes" which surround the pump but they even got into that. I wrapped the whole pump and box in old tights and that finally did the trick.
Has anyone else had this problem and ideas how to tackle pump makers to put a warning in the instructions ect.
I would like anyone in the media who suggests we make ponds to point this out.
I now have a pumpless pond which is just as good ( no waterfall this time , so no pump needed ) |

| | | Re: Ponds and pumps ok thanks, I see this has been discussed before.
Sorry I only joined last week !
Glad others are aware of it as a potential problem but sorry we have to find out the hard way. I would like some of these TV gardeners to point it out when they annually show how to construct a pond. I was in touch with Geoff Hamilton about it just before he died and no one else seems to have picked up on it.
Thanks again. |

| | | Re: Ponds and pumps There is a pump case on the market made by Blagdon watergarden company
this encloses the pump and would give support to any finer mesh you may
feel necessary
