what plants should i plant at this time of year

i am looking for some plants to plant at this time of year have i still got enough time to plant and grow most types of plant if not eny sugestions of types

I think there's still time to put in some of the annuals as long as they are watered well.
I was always told that the best time to plant shrubs and perennials is later in the year, autumn etc. Avoid planting in their flowering season as they need their energy for this rather than establishing root systems. Hope this helps

What ? Where ? Why ?

Are we talking wildlife value ? ornamental plants ? vegetable garden ? fruit garden ? herbs ? hedging ? trees ?

There is almost always something that can be planted or propogated at any given time of the year, it's just a matter of getting the right plant for the right season. There are also ways of minimising risk of loss even when planting at the 'wrong' time - but it all depends on the what and where.

In very general terms, and if we are talking about longer lived plants - shrubs, trees etc then broad leaved plants are best planted out in the dormant season, and narrow leaved and evergreens planted in the growing season. Garden centres however tend to sell in plants in leaf, and especially with showy plants, in the flowering season which may not be the best time to buy.

If you provide some more info, I'm sure you'll get some more detailed advice.

BTW, I've got a nice crop of lettuce already, the beetroot is growing nicely, tomato and stpring onions are on their way. It's quite addictive growing your own veg!
