Fern Garden Advice

Hi. I have just planted a new fern garden. Is there anything I need to do, or shall I leave it to get on on its own? I'll see if I can upload a picture of it. Thanks, Sarah.

You will need to ensure that newly planted ferns do not dry out. If you have planted under shade heavy trees, the amount of rainfall reaching the soil will be limited and the amount of moisture taken from the soil by the trees will also be significant. How much you will need to water will depend on how retentive the soil is but you should ensure over the next three months that the plants do not go through any sustained drought.

Thanks CM. I wandere how much I needed to water it! It is under heavy shade from next doors poplar trees, who's shade covers almost the entire garden so no sunlight will get to it. (we've been tying to get him to cut them back for ages, but he's a grumpy stubbon old man!!) Here's a picture of the fern bed:

I think they'll do fine there Sarah. As CM has said, just keep them moist.

P.S. Jeff, no one can be as stubborn or grumpy as our next-door neighbour! (Ex-military, thinks he is still a colonal, got blown up, so takes it out on us! GRRRRRRR!!!!! )
