No, I don't think you're too ambitious at all . It's surprising what you can do in a small space - try planting in containers. I've only got a small backyard myself, but I do have a conveniently south-facing fence, and I'm growing my salad leaves like this:
Is this something you could try?
I've also got spring onions and radishes on the fence, and tomatoes, a courgette and a cucumber waiting to go out and be hung in the same way.

Spring onions - refer to instructions on packet. I do two rows to a tub, one now, one later. ( Mine don't seem to be doing too well this year, I think I'm using old seed. Must get some more out )
Good luck with exams and veg

Might sound silly lol | If it doesn't say "peat-free" on the packet, then assume it's not, or else ask.

Just look for a compost that says it's suitable for growing vegetables
We've just bought some West + Advanced which is suitable for fruit and vegetables.
