| | | Waterproof drawing pen I'm after a reasonable quality, fine nibbed (perhaps 0.1 mm), black drawing pen. However it must be waterproof as I intend to use watercolours as well. Has anyone any suggestions? The cheaper the better please!

| | | Re: Waterproof drawing pen Hello, Chris-
I've been using these pens for years- they are a little dearer than some but I find they don't fade and are waterproof... I've often used them in combination with watercolours. Best thing is, they come in a good range of tips, too.
Any good art shop should carry them- and I think I've come across them in the larger Ryman's shops, too.
PS.- oh, I've just re-read your post... these aren't nibbed, they are fiber-tipped, sorry.

| | | Re: Waterproof drawing pen Hi Chris,
The "Pilot" range might fit your needs: - Pilot Black 0.1mm Drawing Pen Waterproof Pigment Ink
Years ago, during my time in the drawing office, we used to use Rotring "Rapidograph" refillable permanent ink pens. (Expensive, and not the easiest of implements to use, but amongst the best!). e.g.: - rotring Rapidograpgh Technical Pen | Tiger Pens
But note that these Rotrings are technical drawing pens, are only suitable for drawing on certain types of surface. They wouldn't be good for ordinary paper.
Regards,
Mike.

| | | Re: Waterproof drawing pen I have a number of fine line Unipin (water and fade proof pigment ink, black pen, 0.1 (or whatever it is) on the end of the lid. These are my standard ones I frequently use in sketchpads and the lines they make stand up to washes. I also find they last well in conditions that other pens dry out.
A new favourite type of pen I have is the Faber-Castell PITT artist pen which can be bought as a pack (one of each from fine to broad) and the 'nib' is a brush shaped fibre tip. It makes a lovely fluid line, like a stiff brush. I found these while looking for fine nib cartridge pens and failing.
Pilot pens can be good, but they make so many you really need to go to a shop and try them out and check you have a waterproof/permanent one as some are more for writing with and don't work as well for drawing, and vice versa. Also some of the pilot pens which I used to hate using have improved remarkably and whereas they used to smudge (I'm left handed) they dry instantly and so can be used for drawing.
Rotring are expensive but if you care for them they last for generations. I stupidly gave my entire collection of 20 - odd away a few years ago, including some my Dad used in his younger days. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
