| | | Painting Walking Sticks This is a new one on me, I have carved and stained but not painted walking sticks. I have two sticks to walk with at present and would like to paint them black and print yellow mayflys on top of the black. I thought I could get a rubber stamp of a Mayfly but no luck. I have as suggested tried a potato stamp but I am not up to the fine work at present, any ideas??

| | | Re: Painting Walking Sticks Could you attempt to cut out a mayfly shape from thin card with a sharp craft knife or a scalpel, tape this tightly to your stick and dab yellow paint through the mayfly shape?
In handicraft shops they seem to have every shape of sticker you can imagine, try there. Let's have a look when you've done it. Cheers, Tony. |

| | | Re: Painting Walking Sticks Is this the silhouette view you want or a dorsal view with flat wings i.e. spinner pose?
Wouldn't the tails (a distinguishing feature of mayflies) be difficult to replicate in silhouette?
I reckon the stencil and spray method would work. Light spray, maybe a couple of applications to prevent paint "creep" under the stencil edge. |

| | | Re: Painting Walking Sticks You know Rod, life would be soooo much easier if you went for a butterfly instead! There are loads of stencils available for them!

| | | Re: Painting Walking Sticks Dragonflies might be easier to find and put on the sticks as they are more bulky and more common in our culture, whilst still keeping to the insect theme. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
