| | | Soapstone for carving Hi guys,
I started doing some cave art earlier this year after going to a British Musuem workshop on it that was absolutely amazing. Trouble is, I don't know where to get some more nice, soft stone. I've been carving into an antler pedicle for ages, but it's very hard and I'd like to work on some easy stone at the same time. I live in London - any ideas where I can buy or scavenge a few bits of the stuff without paying £595375493 plus shipping for a massive pile? |

I don't live in the UK, so can't help with suppliers, but I've recently started a bit of whittling and have been using wooden things found in charity shops/jumble sales/car boot sales etc. and while doing this I've noticed quite a few largish soapstone carvings which could be used for smaller items.
They cost next to nothing, of course, but obviously won't be suitable for larger items. Maybe worth practising your cuts on though.
Hope you'll post some here when you're done
Cheers,
Andestine |

My partner made a gargoyle some years ago using one. It's acquired a nice patina of moss! Miscellaneous
(I must make the link more meaningful!)
