| | | Enchanted trees Following on from Martin's faces in the winter tree, last year I had a spate of creating some trees with fairies and things.
I hadn't been on the autumn mushrooms honestly
This one was done on coloured paper with coloured pencils. So Martin, a challenge How about an enchanted tree with your computer art skills? or anyone else maybe.............

| | | Re: Enchanted trees I like the bright sprites, it reminded me of a Yeats poem, part of which is... Come away, oh human child
To the waters and the wild
With a fairy hand in hand
For the world's more full of weeping
Than you can understand.
Where the wave of moonlight glosses
The dim grey sands with light
By far off furthest Rosses
We foot it all the night
Weaving olden dances
Mingling hands and mingling glances
Till the moon has taken flight
To and fro we leap
And chase the frothy bubbles
While the world is full of troubles
And is anxious in its sleep.

| | Re: Enchanted trees Ooh Chrissy, I do like that image. It is just the fantasy place I would live if I were one of those faeries...

| | | Re: Enchanted trees Loripo, what a lovely piece of poetry and I have not come across it before
It really fits...you seem to have pieces in your head to fit every occasion!
Sunnydale, I used to love illustrated books and some of them probably influence anything out of my imagination now...
I have so many favourites from my childhood..
Kayleigh, I do like spiritual type subjects...lights, stars, moon. Did anyone see that moon the other night? It was amazing and sort of went with Loripo's poetry.
Duchess, yeah, it is quite good to think where faeries and elves might live...
I think Martin's fairy bonnets are also a contender
I haven't done anything like this for a while, perhaps it is time that I sat with a blank piece of paper for a change....

| | | Re: Enchanted trees Remembering story books and illustrations - I had a copy of The Water Babies with wonderful pictures by Warwick Goble. (I had to look it up!) Google Images for fairies+Warwick Goble mouth watering
The poem I found by chance , although I do like Yeats - remember 'golden apples of the sun, silver apples of the moon'? Did you see the film Artificial Intelligence. A small boy remembers his mother whom he has lost and goes looking for her. He sees the first verse I typed above displayed on a screen. It seems he is really an android, but he has been given memories to make him feel complete. The words stuck with me and I searched around until I found the poem... Then I bought a book of Yeats poems to make sure!

| | | Re: Enchanted trees Yes the tree is magical and the poem is too. Thanks you two for sharing them with us. The only poem that I learned at school that could be called at all magical was 'Silver' by I'm pretty sure it was Walter De La Mare, oh yes then there was 'Winter' .When icicles hang by the wall, that conjured up a sort of silvery frosty feeling, but not exactly magical.Other than that it was 'The Albatross' and 'The Ancient Mariner' or are they the same poem.? I can't remember, but I bet Lori will know. But they certainly aren't magical in the way we are talking about on this thread. Poe... (Not Edgar Allen, short for Posie, ) HeHe. |

| | | Re: Enchanted trees Yes Edgar Allan Posie, it was the Ancient Mariner that killed the Albatros
Silver is a magical poem I think. I meant to say to Chrissy that I love the way the light glows behind the tree, very effective if you stand away from the computer screen, as though there are more faeries there.
