| | | Forest FOREST
In the past.
whenever man needed
some great imposing building,
a permanent prayer-house
or temple for the arts,
its shape became a forest glade frozen in stone.
Tall slender pillars like the trunks of mighty beeches
and vaulting like the branches of the forest roof.
Now this too has been shifted from the human consciousness.
Now soul-less square boxes like so many packing-cases
merely contain us, rather that inspire our fellowship with Nature.
And with this seperation from our natural beginnings
comes a lack of undersstanding for those former forest homes.
No longer part of our immediate surroundings
we plunder them unfeelingly, simply to serve our wants.
Yet every day around us is the evidence
of our dependence on their unthought-of sacrifice.
Every door, every floor, every roof over our heads
contains the sawn-up relics of these noble Life companions,
for every piece of wood we use, so often without thought
marks yet another death of those who give us air to breathe.
The sacrifice they make must never be forgotten,
for they give willingly when used with care and thought.
Replenished and renewed they will serve our needs for ever,
neglected and abused they can no longer help sustain us. That is the
Simple choice
which man has
yet to comprehend
the destructive path
Of unremitting greed, Or join hands with Mother Nature in a true and joyful partnership. |

| | | Re: Forest An excellent piece and very well constructed. I work with wood and I know it may sound daft to some but if I use live wood I always ask the tree, even though it doesnt talk back. Just out of respect for a living thing. Cheers
