That is a decent piece of work, Martin.
Colour - not necessarily better (IMO), just different.
Still, good luck with it!

Re: Ink 'n' pen wash...Four Spotted Chaser

Well Martin I think it's great and that isn't because it's from one of my photos.
Anyone who can get that amount of detail in a pen and ink drawing regardless of subject has talent.

It's very life like in my opinion. Would be good to see a colour one of some sort but you have definitely done justice to the pen and ink version.

No need to ask if you wish to use any others Martin, just go ahead.

Roger

Thank you very much Dutchess, worked in a drawing office for a few years and did schematics, just black and white and have been used to b/w ever since in line drawing work.
There is a "But".....
But lets see later on.
Thanks for your comments...appreciated.

The honest truth Roger is that it is in colour, I am not unhappy with it but am not sure that I have got the colours quite right.....and on a drawing like this that is a must. I have to get some more inks.
Thank you very much for your kind words and I am glad it does look like what it should.
This is done to nearly A3 size so too large for my A4 scanner so I will go and get one done in town, then send you an image and see what you think of it in colour.
That will be the proof for me...one way or the other.
Thanks again for the permission to use your images Roger....so many to choose from.
I will send you this one in colour and see what you think....I have only seen them from yours and others photographs, a different perspective when you come to paint or colour it.
Thanks Roger...your comments are greatly received.

Absolutely beautiful,
I have done quite a lot of pen and ink drawings of buildings, but have never even thought of trying what you are doing,
Must get the Rotrings out again and have a go,
Duncan

Re: Ink 'n' pen wash...Four Spotted Chaser

I really like pen and ink work cos its detailed and sort of 'correct' rather than artistic if you know what I mean - but this is a lovely peice of work and stands in its own right......... tho I would be interested to see gentle colour washes

Thanks Duncan.
I use one of those old style nibs in a holder and a couple of brushes for those larger areas. I buy my Water Colour paper by the sheet from a local art shop as it so much cheaper then cut it down to roughly A3.
The nibs are used as apposed to Rotering sets as they would clog up on the courser paper.
Thanks for the comments Duncan much appreciated.

ok I'm looking forward to this and like Duncan I'm thinking its time my rotrings came out too ............ mind you I think finding them now could be a problem its so many years since I last saw my artwork case ........... thats a point - must stop playing with website and do some artwork instead - I have the urge! Meanwhile - yours is lovely - you have a deft touch which at the minute whispers a little unsureness - which I think is just that you are out of practice? I feel that if you let yourself go - and go for it - there will be a deftness and surety to your work that will be amazing - I'm watching this space.............

Pauline

PS One last tip - keep your washes flat - use a big brush - big bold strokes - plenty wet not much colour or tone in it and for a very pleasing effect try 'blotting' the wash with a dampened sponge as soon as its down - this removes brushstrokes - always work very wet tho for background washes then you will lose the scrubby effect!

Re: Ink 'n' pen wash...Four Spotted Chaser

Bill thank you very much.
I came across it by chance and the talent within is outstanding
It was looking at the other art and that got me back into painting and line drawing.
You should have a gander at more work held within cause the standard is great and so varied.

Thanks for the comments Bill appreciated.

Re: Ink 'n' pen wash...Four Spotted Chaser

wow! I wish I could draw as good as that.

I struggle to draw stick people. and when I do theyre always out of proportion - heads bigger than there shoulders, arms longer than legs - they look like mutants that have been genetically altered!

Well you have your own talent KeenTeen, never forget that, as for stick people look no further than Lowery, nearly most people know his name
and he did some great paintings...."recorded History in his own style".
So never give up and try different things......you never know another part of you might come to light.

Thanks for your comments.
