This was painted using Oils..on a A4 size board.

Very "atmospheric" Julie .. was it painted from memory .. or from a photo ?

I assume the lighter patches on the trees represent Spanish Moss hanging down ? ...

(I've never been anywhere where Mangroves grow .. but I have read a few James Lee Burke novels, where they're described in detail) ..

I'm not a lover of oils no matter who is doing it I'm afraid - rules me right out of a visit to the Tate then

I prefer your pencil sketches and I don't need to say again what I wish you would do with your flower study ink and watercolour washes.........

From memory Kev ...yeah rite.. .no i painted this painting after watching a TV program on the Mangrove forests of India last year sometime...

Ahhh ... never even thought of India ...

Was thinking more like the Southern States of USA (Florida, Louisiana etc) ..

Slightly O/T .. but wasn't there a suggestion recently to plant Mangroves along parts of the UK coastline to combat coastal erosion ??

As yet have never tied oils, looks like you can get a thick base to work on, the reflections have worked very well, in fact I think brilliant!!
Like it Julie...a nice rich painting.

Cheers Martin...again i use layers when working with Oil..a thin layer at a time..using a cloth to create the water with very little paint upon it..and then thinning down the oil throughout the painting..this way its done in less than 2hrs and dried in just over a day...I get bored easy so dont like to be spending too long on one piece..

Atmospheric was the word which popped in my mind too. The water is amazing , you make it sound easy...I mess with mine for ages

Cheers annmaria...i do find using a restricted palette will create a different mood within itself ..and did seem to help with this painting..
