Annmaria | Hi ther A nnmaria...Dont know if i can be of any help ...but with water colour its not what you paint its what you leave white..
Ive just put on a painting in oil..called Relaxation..take a look and see if its helps at all.. with this one it was all about the reflections..this helped create the water effect.
Julie

Same problem as you, but have been told the same as Julie is saying though I find it hard to do.
A learning curve for us I think
You did say you liked them....or was it arches?
Good luck and persivere...I am sure you will get it sorted.

| | | Re: Painting water..help Hi Annmaria ..
One way of depicting water is to use the "wax resist" method ..
That is to apply a wax pencil (bought from an Art Supplier) .. or possibly a white candle, at a push on the areas you wish to represent as being reflective ..
Then paint the rest of the "water" with a suitable wash .. the result being that the wash will not adhere to the wax ...
Obviously, this only works with Watercolours ..
Or .. you could try this link for further info (it has a section specific to Acrylics) .... About.com Painting -- Learn How to Paint, Painting Tips, Projects, Creativity
Good luck ..
Bye for now ..
Kev ..

Julie | Goodmorning Julie , your oil painting is exactly the effect I am after...oils must be the ultimate to work with. I have tried water colours , planning ahead is not my strong point. Acrylics normally help me cover my disasters but I must have a mental block on this one. If I get it right I will post , big if at this stage.
Thankyou
