| | | Work Experience Hi Guys,
Pretty new to the forum.... I started my level 3 diploma in countryside management today and the course layout is great!!!
I have a 4 week block of work experience where i have to work full time in the industry, I was just wondering if anyone knew any good places for work experience in conservation?
Unfortunately it is not as simple as finding the placement alone being a mature student I will have to take a month off work so it will be an interesting month!!
Thanks

I am a final year student in Countryside management and took my work experience with a local wildlife trust, luckily for me there was a project involving canals and water vole surveying and needed extra hands, so you could inquire with them. The time of year may influence on who or when organisations/consultancies may take people on. It was better to do ours during the summer break between year one and two of higher education semesters. Your tutors may have some contacts, ours did and pointed other students in the right directions.
Get your CV updated now with any relevant work that you may have undertaken. If you do find a place learn what you can about the organisation, some will interview or some will be willing to take people on if they are busy. I can only draw on my own particular experiences and I am sure others here may help you further and give more advice.

| | | Re: Work Experience Look at the RSPB Voluntary Wardening Scheme. They usually expect a longer committment than one month though and are heavily subscribed. You might have more chance with your local Wildlife Trust or BTCV.
Don't discount private companies either which carry out services such as fencing, planting and woodland management. A routine internet search would identify potential opportunities.
Look on the website of the Arboricultural Association as there are many arb companies who could give you experience in tree and chainsaw work. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
