| | | Job Search Hello, I've just found this site and thought I'd give it a go!
I am a graduate in Animal Management and I am currently seeking employment anywhere in the animal industry, be it conservation, welfare, behaviour, animal care - I'm keeping an open mind towards where I would like to work. However, I'm having trouble finding jobs.
Can anyone recommend places to look? I usually try environmentjob.co.uk, land-force, animaljob.co.uk and several charities as well as local and national newspapers. But I thought that maybe I am missing a few places where I can look?
Thanks x |

Thanks x | I would heartily recommend joining every group relevent to the type of work you want to do that you can and getting involved in voluntary work or workshops / conferences that sort of thing, you're far more likely to get a foot in the door if someone knows your face. Networking got me my job after months of ignored and refused job applications. Hope this helps!!! |

| | | Re: Job Search Hey there,
Im in the same situation, got my degree in Animal Welfare, and MSc in Wildlife Management but there are so little vacancies for us newbies. All jobs I have so far come across look for people with 2 or more years experience in the relative area!

You may have to take a few fill in jobs for cash until someone recognises your efforts. Good luck with your applications. I'm sure you'll be successful soon.

| | | Re: Job Search Something else to look at (especially those without suitable qualifications) is whether there is some other job that you could do that would allow you to combine research and observation of wildlife with the job, possible examples are jobs such as security guard, community warden or even a driving job that takes you out into the country, you will find that something as simple has keeping writing down details of everything that you see and where and when you have seen it will be satisfying even more so if you send a copy of your notes to the local record centre where people will be very grateful. Ypu don't even need a camera.
Many of these jobs actually pay as much or more than a graduate with a good degree will earn working in the wildlife job itself.
Another unpaid but vital activity is "square bashing" where you note down everything that you see within a particular OS grid 100 metre square, there are lots of these square where there and few if any records and where your records will soon become visible as the maps are updated. Such is the beed for information that even a record of a robin or blackbird in your garden is useful.

| | | Re: Job Search Hello,
I have recently joined this site to help me in my quest to find an animal job too!!! I have just finished a degree in Animal Science. For all those that have done MSc's what courses did you do and where? I would very much like to study further! As i just missed out on a 2.1 i'm not sure how easy it is going to be!
If any one has any more hints on the job front, all greatly appreciated!
Thanks Matt | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
