| | | Short courses in woodland management Ello,
I've been a ranger for over 3 years now. I have a degree in Environmental Protection and an ND in Countryside Management. I'm now looking for some sort of specialism and have kind of adopted the woodland management at my place.
What I am wondering is, are there any part time courses that I can do the work on in the evenings, that lead to a recognised and worthwhile qualification? I work for a local authority and they won't stump anything up to help as there's no money in the training kitty for anyone. Therefore, it would need to be affordable. I could likely get time off in the day from time to time though. |

The only short course that may interest you would be the one run by Woodland Heritage in Herefordshire, it’s a full three day course which may mean using your holiday.

I shall look into that further. It looks interesting for me and beneficial for my wood as we are keen on maximising what we can do with our thinnings and end product rather than just selling them as firewood. Good stuff. |

I have also been working in Woodland management for a few years with a similar background to yourself. I have recently been looking at this course Study RFS Level 2 Certificate in Arboriculture with the Horticultural Correspondence College
Im looking to specialise in the next few years and although some of it will be repetition from uni i can cope with that the majority will be more detailed information.
Its also distance learning or at college one day a week, Speak to your employer sometimes they will allow one day off (paid) for Professional development. Or at least mine did.
Good luck |

Good luck | Yeah that is more what I'm after. In fact I have been researching this course for a while now. I'm going to the APF show at Cannock Chase next week and I'm hoping there will be someone there who I will be able to discuss this with. I can have quite a few personal development days but at the moment I have so much annual leave and TOIL that I can be quite flexible with it. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
