| | Does anyone want some bat survey experience Hi if you live in Kent, have your own transport (car) and have some bat surveying experience and would like to do some more in May please could you e.mail me at mail@ecologysurveyor.co.uk with a CV I can pay expenses and overnight accomadation for dawn surveys. If you have your own frequency division detector that would be a bonus. I am not looking for experts just experienced persons who can use a bat detector.
I am also looking for some one in kent and hampshire who holds a bat licence again please could you e.mail me your C.V that would be really handy.
Sorry I do not have any paid job vacancys although having people on file who are local and experienced is always a plus. |

If these surveys are for commerical purposes and you are charging a client, surely it is only fair that you pass on some of the money to the person carrying out the survey. This is especially so when you ask for someone with a bat licence!

Of course I will pay for people who are licenced and experienced but without knowing more information how much depends on experience. I am not mean I just want to be fair hence not mentioning money without more information. |

| | Re: Does anyone want some bat survey experience hang on there in my defense there are many people who want to get experience I know I was one of them. I am not expecting people to assist me for free I never said that, so I resent being called a cowboy. You have just assumed that is the case.
I have used people for bat surveys with some experience and have paid them for there services an amount agreed by them covering expenses meals overnight stays and sum suitable to their experience.
I feel quite angry about this attitude. I am providing fee training and paying an appropriate amount for the time. I am not as you say a large consultancy and my fees are as such much smaller so please do not make accusations when I am trying to provide a way to gain experience. I have worked for free for many years to gain the experience I have now and do not expect others to go through what I went through and so I was just hoping I could help. As this is the response I shall no longer be asking for help on this forum as I do not want abuse! |

| | | Re: Does anyone want some bat survey experience honedan,
In your first post you requested help stating "I am not looking for experts just experienced persons who can use a bat detector."
You also asked for someone in Kent and Hampshire who had a bat licence.
Coupled with the advantage of having a frequency division bat detector you have requested help from persons with a level of ability above that which I consider free training to be a benefit.
Your latest post leaves me a little confused, I agree that abuse is not what we should hear on WAB but you may have contradicted yourself or perhaps not explained yourself fully.
"I am not expecting people to assist me for free I never said that" then "I am providing fee training and paying an appropriate amount for the time". I understand what you mean but to some, I think have come across differently. |

My view is that a trainee ecologist working on such projects as assisting on bat surveys should get at least £15000 pa. The equivalent freelance hourly rate is £15/hour and I have been paid this for assisting on bat surveys in the past. If surveys require two or more people on site then two or more people should be costed for when preparing a quotation.
Anyone can work for free for the experience if they wish, and I have done this in the past and will no doubt do so in the future (for instance surveying with the local bat group). However, I am concerned about the professionalism of ecologists at times. |

Fair enough I feel your right and that I have not been clear.
I did not wish to limit responses from people hence not giving a hourly rate. I work on many jobs which require people of differing skill levels and experience so limiting my needs would also limit who would respond.
I think this perhaps is not the best way to recruit.
Thank you for your clarification.
So I will draw I line under this an say no more.
Thanks again for your comments.
