I think wearing suits to Interviews is well past it's sale by date unless your applying for work in the City. Most of my work has been community based and I'd always turn up to interviews pretty much the same way as I'd turn up for work each day. Times have changed, they want to make sure that they pick the right person for the job, they have to take into consideration of their fellow staff, will this person fit in. The man in the suit has all the right qualifications but the interviewer doesn't like the look of him. If your what there looking for you'll get the job. |

I agree. I was thinking about just wearing my usual work clothes, i would have felt a lot more comfortable. But decided to go with the suit, just to be on the safe side |

It seems absurd to me!

| | | Re: Interview wear? Sorry but suit everytime as far as I am concerned! I mean, surely smart casual is pretty much what some people wear every day isn't it? Suits on the other hand show a little preparation and thought have gone into the interview first!
Smart casual to me the person either thought 'that will do' and is just along for the practice / experience or they are trying to set themselves apart, which unless you are a PR guy for some tropical island off the great barrier reef, ain't necessarily what you want! |

Just some thoughts on the clothing thing, I have to say it all depends on the job. If your trying for a drivers job, nobody expects you to wear a suit.
The jobs I interview for tend to involve meeting clients in B2B situations. I would expect any candidate to wear a matching suit. Sorry if that's old fashioned but if they can't be bothered to wear a suit for 2 hours in something as important as interview, it just creates the wrong impression. It's very difficult to learn about a person in just a couple of hours, so every little thing counts. Suit says they've put a minimal amount of thought into the interview and they are keen to make a good impression. Doesn't determine the outcome of the interview on it's own, but it's one tick against that name.

| | | Re: Interview wear? Congratulations Mark ... and good to hear that some people are still finding work in this economic climate.
The last interview I went to I was wearing walking boots ... well I did have to walk 2.5 miles through 1 foot of snow to get to the train station, followed by a two hour train journey. The boots were beautifully dubbined though. I did consider taking a pair of shoes to change into, but then thought I'd look like a bag lady as I'd then have had to carry the boots into the interview. I didn't get the job .. I was too smart, in both dress and brains ...

I dont really have a say in weather a suit is appropiate or not, but i can say it did the job | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
