| | | Protected Species Licences Hi there,
I know that protected species licences make you alot more employable but how do you get them and who gives them out?
I know that with bat licences you have to volunteer for a long time and then get a sponsor is it the same for other licences? And how hard are say newt licences to get?
Cheers

Natural England give out licenses, you need to gain experience with the species which varies from each species.
To obtain a Great Crested Newt license you need to have worked with them, for no set period of time, but you need two referees who have worked with you on great crested newt surveys to say you are able to do the surveys & methods correctly etc.
I actually have experience doing great crested newt surveys, I am in the process of filling out the form for a license but was told by Natural England because I am currently a graduate seeking employment and do not have any surveys currently planned, then i cannot obtain a license. Wonderful.
So it shouldnt really be difficult a great crested newt license, but is proving to be so. |

You can understand NE not wanting to give out licences "on spec". Yout two referees will doubtless confirm you are trained to licensable standard if you put that on any application forms.

| | | Re: Protected Species Licences Oh I forgot to mention I live in Scotland! So is it SNH that does it up here instead of NE? And is there a difference in how the licences are given in Scotland? | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
