| | | Jobs Hi im new here so i dont know if this is in the right place. I was looking for advice from people who have jobs in conservation. Ive got over a years experience leading a greengym in southampton for BTCV but I still cant get an interview for any conservation jobs. Ive been employed in other work so I dont think its my CV am I missing some vital element? Ive been searching for jobs for the past 4 years in this sector without success I dont think I can just be unlucky |

| | | Re: Jobs As far as i understand it most jobs in the environment sector require something like 4 or 5 years experience in the field and / or a relevant degree.
Im in the same situation as yourself and have so far clocked up 1 year of my degree and 2 years voluntary experience in the field with the Wildlife Trust...So on completion of my degree in 2 years i should have clocked up around 4 years voluntry experience so im hoping i may get interviews? |

| | | Re: Jobs 4 is over stating it for the junior end - 1 or 2 years is probably more on the mark - however most jobs do require you to have a degree or at least HND so if you dont have a relevant qualification this may be why you are struggling to get interviews.
a second possiblility is the relevance of your experience - experience of running a green gym for BTCV would be relevant to getting a volunteers coorrdinator or project officer job but might not give the right background for something like warden which requires more nature conservation experience. - There are two ways of dealing with this either widen your experience or target your job search to jobs where your exp is relevant.
Thirdly it could just be down to how your cv/covering letter is written - it could be just the presentation that is letting it down, or perhaps it is failing to comunicate your experience to best effect.
and forthly it could be just badluck - I applied for somewhere in the region of 100 jobs before i got one interview and had 20 or 30 interviews before i got a job so it could be that you just need to persevere

Guess im just gunna have to be vigilant | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
