| | | Ecology jobs in Scotland I'm thinking of moving to the east coast of Scotland for personal reasons (in Yorkshire at the moment) and from looking at all the environment job websites there seem to be relatively few ecology posts, especially for recent graduates, in Scotland in general. Am I missing something?! Do Scottish consultancies etc tend to advertise on other websites I don't know about, or are there just not that many companies in the first place?
Any help greatly appreciated! |

| | | Re: Ecology jobs in Scotland Hi there! I live in the East Coast of Scotland and am a recent graduate looking for an ecology job. It is virtually impossible here, not because the consultancies don't advertise but because there are barely any consultancies, and the ones there are seem to only hire about 3 ecologists as they are small bases up here. You can try SEPA, jobs pop up there once in a while, other than that it's just pot luck! There are more consultancies around Edinburgh/Glasgow though. |

| | | Re: Ecology jobs in Scotland Pretty well every big engineering company will have an environmental dept these days. Why not try approaching these companies directly with your CV? I have two friends who graduated 2 years ago (1 with a masters deg, one with 2 years work experience) who work for an engineering company in Glasgow this way.
You could also try the yellow pages for small consultancies that perhaps dont have a strong web presence? In the meantime, you could start by volunteering your services while you look for work - it can only make you more employable at the end of the day...
Good luck!

| | | Re: Ecology jobs in Scotland Hi guys, thanks for the replies. Actually since I posted that almost a year ago (how time flies!) I moved to Dundee, worked in admin for SNH for 5 months, then decided that it wasn't really what I wanted to be doing, so applied for some consultancy jobs in Edinburgh instead, and got one! There really are very few consultancies outside the big cities which is a shame..but there are worse places to be than Edinburgh! |

| | | Re: Ecology jobs in Scotland Sorry I didn't realise the post was a year old! Edinburgh seems to have alot of ecology jobs popping up now! Unfortunately I can't move away from Aberdeen, not for a while anyway. I also am still working on getting my driving licence which is rather essential to do any ecology job! I'm glad you found something Deb, and hope it's going well! |

| | | Re: Ecology jobs in Scotland Hello, I too am looking to move to Scotland (maybe Edinburgh or there abouts) in the not to distant future and am also looking for an Ecologically based post. Does anyone know of ANY organisations, which would hire a post-graduate? In the ecological or ornithological field of work. |

| | | Re: Ecology jobs in Scotland for ornithological work have a look at offshore wind wave etc construction recruiters, they have teams of on and off shore people and if you have proven abilities and dont mind working from a boat then there are plenty of roles

| | | Re: Ecology jobs in Scotland There are quite a lot of recruitment agencies and trusts that often post ads for ecologists and ornithologists in Scotland. Conservation Jobs UK is a good place to start looking, they seem to have a few ecology positions in Scotland at the moment: ecology - Conservation Jobs UK | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
