| | | Any good websites for Graduate Environmental/Ecology jobs? Sorry I'm new to this,
I am wondering if someone can give me a few webistes that has graduate environmental or ecological jobs? I finnished my Masters in Ecology for a year now and still had no luck finding a environemental or ecological job. Not much work experience in those fields in terms of work related experience.
Thanks |

Well its the right time of year to be looking for work in this field.
Best websites i have used in the past are:
environmentjobs.co.uk
environmentjob.co.uk
countryside-jobs.com
With a degree and masters you shouldn't find it that hard to get work if your using agencies, a few examples below are:
Alan and york
Penguin recruitment
First Technical recruitment
all are very active in these fields and should find you work in no time, just remember having degrees and masters is no replacement for on the job experience so be prepared to earn very little other than knowledge in the first survey season and be willing to move around the country where work demands. |

| | | Re: Any good websites for Graduate Environmental/Ecology jobs? I too have used Countryside Jobs Service - can't speak highly enough of them. In fact every job I got in this field, until I became self employed, I saw first in the CJS.
Well worth whatever their subscription is these days.
Otherwise tackle the experience issue with voluntary work until you get your first proper job. It gets you meeting people which can pay dividend later, as well as showing some prior form when it comes to job applications.
As gardnerbr says be prepared for low wages - I lost money over the course of my first job due to expenses I had to face up to to do the work and the low wages, but I still think of that as the best job I ever had because of the experience I got from it, and the fact that it was my 'first job'!!

The reason for my lack of work is I keep being turned down to due to the lack of experience.
I am a very enthuisatic ecologist but unfortunately experience is more valuable. |

these guys are brilliant.
if you don't have the qualifications you'd probably be rejected too, don't worry it will happen it is a good time of year lots of survey work to be done. I can also recommend joining local badger groups, bat groups hawk and owl trust, mammal society etc to get experiance on their workshops and field trips and sometimes you'll meet someone with a job. Its how I got mine! |

| | | Re: Any good websites for Graduate Environmental/Ecology jobs? if you go to Countryside jobs link - your guide to a countryside job in the UK and beyond
there is a whole loads of links to environmental job sites including the websites mentioned by others above in their posts along with organisations such as the national trust, british waterways, wildlife trusts, national parks, woodland trust and more.
hope this helps you. |

I had loads of trouble getting a job but i have finally got one working for the Wildlife Trust as an education officer. I had to do 6 months volunteering before I got a related job but rubbish money beofre I got the job im in now. We have a few v placement volunteers at the Wildlife Trust and they are fantastic, all graduates in the field. Its a 6 month placement, expenses paid for, get a qualification and the experience will land you a job! We had an ecology graduate start on Monday and he said its all experience and hes glad he decided to take part. All the people I know have managed to get a job at the end. Its probably not what youre wanting to do in the long run but its great experience. Most Wildlife Trust have such placements and I definately recommend them!
