| | | re: Singles and Doubles Snowdrops I used to think that snowdrops were just snowdrops, but Chelsea Physic garden in London have an event every year where they show all the different varieties of snowdrops. Some are quite tall but all very beautiful. I've just realised that this years event was last weekend, but they will probably still have the showcase on view so I must go and have a look.

| | | re: Singles and Doubles Snowdrops Lovely photo's Hedera.
There are around 200 species and varieties of Snowdrops (Galanthus) available. But like most of us, I can only really tell the difference between 'singles' and 'doubles'.

Mine look wild to me? , | From my reading, the nativity of snowdrops is questionable, most are widely naturalized.

The only one thought to possibly be native is G. nivalis, which is very similar to the one you have pictured above.

| | | re: Singles and Doubles Snowdrops ...and for those who may not have seen these snowdrops featured in the newspapers:-
Green Tear - one bulb sold for £360
and
Elizabeth Harrison - one bulb sold for over £700
....they are georgeous, but reason must prevail!!
I believe the Dutch were ever madder over tulips in the 17th/18th century.
