Hmm Southern marsh orchid Dactylorhiza praetermissa perhaps?

Thanks Johnny....again on the Isle of Wight near Godshill, and it was in very damp bit of meadow.

Not a definate, Dorts is your man for Orchids

It's an Early Purple Orchid - Orchis mascula.
A loose spike of flowers. Big 'blousy' lip with just one or two spots. Celandines and Bluebell in flower beneath says it's an early flowering species. There is also a typical dark-spotted orchid leaf, just out of focus, in the background.

I've not seen any UK wildlife forums that match WAB.
