| | | yellow crucifers
I am very pleased to see that canola (oil-seed rape - OSR) is being sown with zero tillage these days. Cruciferous weeds in OSR must be a headache to control with herbicides. And I found these two yesterday.
I would appreciate a bit of help on their precise identification. I think the first is charlock ( Sinapis arvensis) and the second wild cabbage ( Brassica oleracea). Any contributions? |

| | | Re: yellow crucifers I agree that the first is Charlock - Sinapis arvensis.
The second I don't think is right for the rather local Wild Cabbage - Brassica oleracea. That species has Raddish-like flowers with narrow petals, broadening at the tip held on brown pedicles. It is more likely to be derived from one of the many cultivated cabbage/greens etc.

| | | Re: yellow crucifers Camilo, I perhaps should have added that the true Wild Cabbage is Brassica oleracea ssp. oleracea, and is by no means common and is mainly confined to a few coastal regions in the South-S.West.
Other plants may be one of several other ssp's, or possibly a mixture of these.

| | | Re: yellow crucifers Thanks Dorts. I agree, on reflection I think it may actually be a premature canola plant. There were several dotted about the field. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
