Question Is this some kind of nettle? Id please!
Hello

I'd very much like to know what this flower is. My 'Wild Flowers' book is proving very unhelpful. It was found at the edge of a shaded footpath.

I feel I should add that I don't normally pick plants I can't identify - it proved rather brittle when I tried to bend it to photographs the flower. Lesson learnt there!

Hi Lucy, welcome to WAB
Not too clear from just the flower, but going by the leaves, and as you found it on a shady path I'd say it's Betony - Stachys officinalis. The leaves are perfect for that species. It looks like the plant has been damaged and is flowering on secondary side-shoots.

I'd agree with Dorts in it being Betony.
