| | | Re: is Tosca....for ID :-) Tosca, your plant is Alexanders - Smyrnium olusatrum. It is most common near the sea, but not so common inland. Flowers very early.

Cheers,
Adam | Several reports now of very early-flowering Alexanders. Interesting to see it appears to be quite common in and around London.
When I lived in Hampshire, I wouldn't see it until I reached Havant, Fareham or Chichester. Are the 'salty-roads' causing it to be spreading inland I wonder?
Any ideas Adam why it be common around the Staines Reservoirs for example?

| | | Re: is Tosca....for ID :-) No idea Dorts, but it does seem associated with some of the reservoirs and has been there as long as I've been birding there (nearly 30 years), so would seem to predate the salty-road spread of Danish Scurvygrass.
Cheers,
Adam |

| | | Re: is Tosca....for ID :-) I saw it in flower along the Thames towpath at Putney near where Beverley Brook enters back in December. I certainly get the impression it's increasing around London where it can be locally common in some places.
Similarly Perfoliate Alexanders is also popping up in new places. |
