| | | Another early spring flower Hi,
Another early spring flower. Mercurialis perennis, Dog's Mercury, growing in sheltered woodland by the River Erme, Ivybridge, South Devon. It is a plant with male flowers and, to be truthful, the photo shows the plant with flower buds which have not yet opened so perhaps I am jumping the gun a little

Dorts. | There is also a banking of it on the way out of Milnthorpe heading for Arnside! If it hadn't been raining so hard I would have got out of the car for a sniff at its glorious sweet vanilla scent |

| | | Re: Another early spring flower My Winter Heliotrope plants were near Bodnant Gardens. It's not so common in these parts.
Down South, where it is abundant, I noticed it is nearly always to be found in and around churchyards. Perhaps it had some religious meaning in the past?

| | | Re: Another early spring flower In South Devon, Winter Heliotrope grows everywhere and spreads fast, often becoming the dominant species so that it has the same effect as Japanese Knotweed as nothing can compete with it.
