Dorts. | Agree it's V. blattaria. The normal form has lemon yellow flowers but for the last couple of years there have been at least a couple of plants growing wild close to me that have very similar flowers to the ones shown above. A lovely delicate mullein. |

| | | Re: unidentified flower growing in my garden. Pls help. I'm going to agree too. I've Googled 'Verbascum blattaria' now and yes, they look identical to this one. they don't appear native to the UK though. I saw a pic of one in Japan. ?
Extremely tall and slender (like a Fox glove) it looks quite short at first, then I notice it has grown horizontally along the ground for about 20cms first (mad as you like), then jutted up vertically for another 30cms or so. Just random, on it's own, in the middle of the lawn. -and happy as a pig in mud!
-Apparently a member of the Figwort family.
Thanks so much for your help all. Fascinating! |

| | Re: unidentified flower growing in my garden. Pls help. Yes they're not native here but are occasionally grown in gardens- I've grown it + let it seed about in gravel, so it does occur in the wild as a casual.
I have seen it growing in a few places in Kazakhstan so possibly native there too, but I'm not 100% sure, so it's tough putting up with very hot summers + very cold winters. |

Moth Mullein has been recorded in a number of places in Southern Britain, but it rarely persists anywhere for very long.
