| | | Re: Flower Escapee for Id please Hi Juliet, yes it was taken on Sunday in Warwickshire. I knew I should have recognised the petals!
I wonder why it`s out at this time? I remember that last year I saw a Violet out in the Autumn & was told that it`s an insurance policy, perhaps it`s the case here as well?

| | | Re: Flower Escapee for Id please Cyclamen (Cyclamen hederifolium) is surprisingly common and has been well naturalised in some places for well over two hundred years, mainly in the south and particularly so around London.

edit: I took a picture, but it didn't come out very well, so have one of the walled garden instead, which was looking amazing.

Shows how much I know | There are many different species avalable for the garden, many are species from places like Turkey, Afghanistan, Greece, Bulgaria etc. Most are late-summer and autumn flowering, but the species Cyclamen coum is spring-flowering and is particularly lovely.

| | | Re: Flower Escapee for Id please There are lots of varieties of cyclamen. Some like C. coum bloom in the spring, nice dark pink colour. C.repandum with pretty pale colours in the summer. The ones in the shops now will stand outside unless it's very severe frost. I have some nearly ten years old which I bring back inside now and they flower til Christmas. The leaves are so pretty too.
