Mint sp.

Working through some old photos from last year and came across this plant with a striking terminal spike of flowers. I presume it's a Mint. Plenty of Water Mint about in this location, but this was obviously different.



I only had a minute or two to grab the picture and didn't take any other details at the time. I'm not very confident with mints other than Water Mint so any input appreciated.

Spearmint Metha spicata could well be the one.

I can smell those leaves from here. A superb specimen of Spearmint - Mentha spicata.
Thought to be a hybrid between Horse Mint - M. longifolia and Round-leaved Mint - M. suaveolens.

Interstingly, Spearmint, itself a hybrid, when crossed again with one of its parents, Horse Mint, gives us Sharp-leaved Mint - M. x villosonervata which looks very similar to Spearmint.

Very promiscuous these Mints!
