Autumn Lady's Tresses - North Wales

Autumn Lady's Tresses photographed in Llandudno last Monday.



Close up, the flowers have a rather crystalline appearance. Is that the cellular structure of the plant or is there another explanation?



Finally, I didn't realise they came in both left-hand and right-hand spirals. Most at this site seem to be left-handers, but here's a right-hander.

Lovely pics Jeff. And from just up the road from me! I presume they were on the Orme?

The 'crystalline appearance' you mention is common in many of our orchid species, but often not noticable without a lens or close-up photography.

A wonderfull species, particularly as it's the last to flower, a late treat.
