| | | A French vetch! Hi everybody
Another wildflower from S France. Based on an image on an Italian wildflower site, I think that this is Tufted Vetch (Vicia cracca).
Is this correct?
Thanks in anticipation of your help.

| | | Re: A French vetch! Thanks Dorts for your confirmation.
I am a complete beginner in the wildflower field, still identifying mainly by flower shape and colour. The botanical terms like pinnate are still somewhat of a mystery to me, but that is changing! I am learning the importance of other factors besides the flower.
I find the illustrations in my wildflower books somewhat limiting, so having selected some possible IDs, go online for some photographs. I was a long time finding anything that ressembled my image. The particular image I found was credited to the Dept of Life Science at the University of Trieste, so I reckoned they should know their stuff! You confirmed it!
Thanks again and look forward to exploring more of the WAB website.

| | | Re: A French vetch! Scotlaw, have you thought of up-grading your library?
There are several very good wildflower field guides avalable, and posts on which are considered the best are often to be found among these threads.
Definitely worth thinking about.
As for learning all the botanical terms, you'll find some are much more usefull than others.
Most Field-Guides have a good glossary of terms, and there's always google.
By the way, a warm welcome to WAB.

Thanks for help and advice.
We are just in the throes of moving house from N Scotland to N England, so no time just at present. For the future, though!
