| | | Re: Hawkweed confimation please. The nearest I can get is possibly Hieracium umbellatum agg. - sometimes refered to as Narrow-leaved Hawkweed. But as there are well over 250 micro-species of Hieracium, it is difficult to be certain.
Lovely plant.

I thought I was getting to grip with one or 2 kinds, but am flabbergasted to know there are 250 micro species.
Are some plants more researched than others to have identified the different species?
How different are they, roughly? |

| | | Re: Hawkweed confimation please. Most species are rare and/or very local and can be quite similar. Without a specialist guide to our Hieraciums, as with Brambles and Dandelions, it is extremely difficult to get to grips with them, and those who have, are few and far between.
There are a few distinct species that can be quite easily identified, but then you will hit a brick-wall!
I think they are great plants, but most I am happy to just admire without knowing their names.
