| | | Re: An Orache/Goosefoot for ID Please Initially I found this confusing; the flowers didn't seem to go with the leaves. But what we've got is two plants.
The large-flowered bright-green plant leaning over from the top right is Good King Henry - Chenopodium bonus-henricus.
The smaller, greyish-leaved plant bottom-front, is Common Orache - Atriplex patula.

But would the more visible plant in the picture be a Rumex... Rumex maritimus?
Regards Chris... |

| | | Re: An Orache/Goosefoot for ID Please Hi Chris. First this looks like a garden, disturbed ground setting, not visibly that typical of the rather rare Golden Dock, which turns a golden-yellow when in fruit.
However, you make a good point which has made me have a fresh look. There are garden vars. of Beets and Spinach's that could indeed be considered for the large plant, and on reflection this plant could well be one of these, (though which one is anyones guess).

| | | Re: An Orache/Goosefoot for ID Please Hi folks, I found a better photo of the flowers of the tall plant. Does it help? It was a Strumpshaw Fen in Norfolk, 2 weeks ago
Many thanks for the interest

| | | Re: An Orache/Goosefoot for ID Please When I first saw this plant, along with the Orache, I thought it looked like Good King Henry, along with a typical group of garden weeds. Now knowing it is growing in/by a fen has not helped me!
But I'm now wondering if it might not be an Amaranthus, of which there are many species recorded in Britain. They are closely related to Beets, Oraches and Goosefoots.
But without clear photo's of the main leaves it is very difficult to be sure what it is.
