| | | UK Buddlejas Could anyone tell me how many recorded species of Buddleja there are in the UK? And is B. davidii the most common?
Thanks,

| | | Re: UK Buddlejas If you mean plants recorded growing 'wild' then it's 4.
Alternate-leaved Butterfly-bush -Buddleja alternifolia.
Butterfly-bush / Buddleia - Buddleja davidii.
Orange-ball-tree- Buddleja globosa
Weyer's Butterfly-bush- Buddleja x weyeriana B. davidii x globosa.
But if you mean species and varieties avalable for the garden, it's about 125 different kinds!
And yes, Buddleja davidii is almost certainly the commonest kind found growing wild.
Dorts.

| | | Re: UK Buddlejas B. davidii seems to be the only widespread one (ubiquitous around London). I've seen a couple of self-sown B. globosa but the other 2 mentioned by dorts I've only seen in gardens/parks.
I did grow a B. x weyeriana in my garden for a couple of years which I propagated as a cutting, but sadly became too large even with regular pruning. |

Here are Distribution Maps for the four species mentioned. (It cannot be assumed every record is of a 'wild' plant).
