| | | Re: Unwelcome invader Why do you say unwelcome? It is not a very common plant, does it have some attributes that make it a problem? (Genuine question, not a hidden attack)

| | | Re: Unwelcome invader Because it was very prickly and caused some irritation - my fault, should have used gloves. I expect there will be more next year as the seeds have blown around!

| | | Re: Unwelcome invader Bristly ox tongue, seemingly has quite a long flowering season which makes it good for bees etc. Perhaps not very pretty though and it can form quite large stands.

I like Bristly Oxtongue best is when the leaves have the distinctive white corpustules (not sure if that is the right technical name), photo attached.
Also look out for the wonderful Hawkweed Oxtongue, photo attached
......but like you, not sure I would welcome into my garden. |

| | | Re: Unwelcome invader Hawkweed Oxtongue - Picris hieracioides is the most Hawkweed-like non-Hawkweed, if that makes sense. Stems are usually red and branched, unlike most Hawkweeds. Leaves are not at all 'bristly'.
Likes limey/chalky soils and is confined to the southern half of England.
