Must add my thanks to clb100 as well, for the useful advice. Identifying families and using the keys is something I have to work on - also getting to grips with the terminology - and oh yes using the "how to use this book" section of not only the collins books but also the "The Wild Flower Key (Revised Edition) - How to identify wild plants, trees and shrubs in Britain and Ireland by Francis Rose and Clare O'Reilly" which I have also picked up recently and found very useful.
Though I have no doubt that you guys will be seeing a lot of requests for ID help in the future....
