| | | Another Unknown Flower Out walking the dog on Caerphilly Mountain when I spotted this flower.
Tried to Id but no luck.
I fear it may be a cultivated flower in the wild??.
Any assistance gratefully received. |

| | | Re: Another Unknown Flower It reminds me of Steeple Bush, Spiraea sp which is normally a bush as the name suggests. Was it just a single flower spike or part of a bush?
Regards, Audrey. |

| | | Re: Another Unknown Flower As I recall there were only two flower heads visible.
Here is a wider view of the plant. |

| | | Re: Another Unknown Flower It's one of the several pink-flowered Brideworts (Spiraea) to be found established in the wild.
Most common are: Spiraea x pseudosalicifolia (Willow-leaved Bridewort), which is scattered around the country. Spiraea douglasii (Steeplebush), scattered but particularly common around London and Liverpool. Spiraea salicifolia (Bridewort). Less common.
I would say Granddadscott's plant is probably 'Steeplebush' as Audrey has suggested or Willow-leaved B..

| | | Re: Another Unknown Flower Would this plant be Bridlewort? I assumed it was a garden escapee, but thanks to Grandadscott asking his question, I might solve my mystery and feel entitled to add it to my own wild flower photo Gallery.
Found in the Fylde, Lancashire. |

| | | Re: Another Unknown Flower All these Spiraeas are originally garden escapes but have become naturalised. When I was last in the Highlands a couple of years ago I noticed one of these plants was quite widespread as a naturalised species. |

| | | Re: Another Unknown Flower Well Alindsay I would say we both have our answer.
A check on Google images and on line.
I will take that it is Bridewort - Spiraea salicifolia.
Which is a Garden escape, naturalised in some places.
Thanks to all for the responses. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
