| | | Re: More Marsh Orchids (sorry!) plus a few other bits... Chris, I imagine the 'Narrow-leaved Marsh Orchids' were from a site not far East of Basingstoke? That being the case, a site I know well, I have something to go on.
The recent history of Dactyorhiza traunsteinerioides (Narrow-leaved Marsh Orchid) at this site is a bit 'up-and-down'. I visited the site with Francis Rose a few years ago to see if any 'pure' plants still survived. Our conclusion was that on that visit, all plants of interest were hybrids with Common Spotted Orchids, (one of the few places in Britain where this hybrid can be found).
Over the last few years there have been claims that 'pure' plants have been found and this is always possible, I have seen them there myself, but that was over 30 years ago.
Your plants are exactly as those that Francis Rose and I found: very close to Narrow-leaved, (Pugsleys) Marsh Orchid, but not quite, some being closer than others.
Sorry Chris, but that's the way it is I'm afraid. Some of your plants are tantalizingly close but still have that hint of Common Spotted in them.
Your Fragrant is definitely Marsh Fragrant, (lip broader than long); from just down the road? And your Burnt-tip's are superb.
Some great plants from N. Hants, which I do miss.
Thanks for that.

Fascinating re. the 'Narrow Leaved Marsh's! Certainly a challenge for a novice like me to ID correctly.
If anyone has a site where either 'pure' Narrow Leaved or Early Marsh are still flowering anywhere between East Anglia or Hants that they are willing to share can they PM me! If not I'll have to wait till next year to get to grips with them properly....
Thanks

| | | Re: More Marsh Orchids (sorry!) plus a few other bits... Chris, I have a site in Oxfordshire for Narrow-leaved Marsh, quite reliable. I can PM you details if it's of any use to you.
Bit late for this year though I would think.

Great stories, just wish I'd had a tape-recorder with me!

Agreed they are stunning plants! - The prettiest orchid so far according to my girlfriend!
Can anybody confirm the Campanula in my above post? Clustered Bellflower?
