It's Rose of Sharon - Hypericum calycinum, a great ground-cover plant for the garden. Not native.

Many thanks Dorts & Artemole, much appreciated, I`m working my way through my husbands photos of plants he took yesterday when he was out by himself  I wonder what else I`ll find
