| | | Colourful roadside flowers This patch of colourful flowers brightens up a road junction near me. Are they wild or garden throw outs? |

| | | Re: Colourful roadside flowers Gorgeous! Geranium pratense - Meadow Crane's-bill, I think. There are garden varieties with this lovely blue colour too. Johnson's Blue is one like this.

| | | Re: Colourful roadside flowers Doesn't look right to me for meadow cranesbill, the flowers are seem too robust and the leaves not 'feathery' enough. A garden geranium would be my guess but i could also be wrong.

| | | Re: Colourful roadside flowers What a magnificant sight!
Certainly looks like Geranium pratense. That dark centre to the flower is not typical of the wild plant though, so I suspect of garden origin.
(as Hedera has suggested, possibly 'Johnson's Blue' which of course is a hybrid with himalayense )

| | | Re: Colourful roadside flowers I was gonna say Geranium pratensebut looks to robust and thick as Gill said. A wild stab at Geranium 'Kashmir Purple' variety, only going by a book?
Hmm second look on another site - looks to small...

| | | Re: Colourful roadside flowers Many thanks all.
I saw them yesterday in bright sun and they were sight to behold but no camera. I just had to detour today with the camera, overcast or not they are still a pretty picture. |

| | | Re: Colourful roadside flowers Just had a good old look through the reference books, and the nearest I can now get is geranium x magnificum, the hybrid between G platypetalum and G ibericum.
Fits suprisingly well.
